AI growth consultant for ecommerce: where AI actually moves growth

"AI growth" sounds like a strategy. It is not. It is a set of tools pointed at the same growth levers you always had.

The question is which levers. Here is my honest map for ecommerce brands between €1M and €10M.

Lever by lever

Acquisition creative. High impact. AI speeds up research, angles and first drafts of copy and briefs. More good tests per month. It still needs a human to pick the angles and protect the brand.

Retention and lifecycle. High impact, often ignored. AI helps segment customers, draft flows and spot churn signals in order data. Many brands at this stage underinvest here. Start here before you add traffic.

Product page conversion. Medium to high. AI is good at mining reviews and support tickets for objections, then drafting copy that answers them. Testing discipline matters more than the tool.

Measurement and reporting. High leverage for leadership time. Agents can pull store, ad and email data into one weekly view. They will not fix broken tracking. They make the truth faster to see once tracking works.

SEO and content. Medium. AI drafts fast, and readers and search engines punish thin pages. Use it for structure and first drafts, then edit hard. More in ecommerce SEO strategy.

Media buying. The ad platforms already automate much of it. Another layer of AI rarely beats better creative and a clean offer.

What AI does not fix

  • A weak offer
  • A product people do not reorder
  • Margins that cannot carry paid acquisition
  • An organisation where nobody owns the outcome

If growth has stalled, the cause is usually on this list. See why DTC brands stall after $1-5M.

AI growth agency or AI growth consultant?

An AI growth agency executes. Useful when you know which lever to pull and need hands.

An AI growth consultant advises. Useful when your team can execute and needs direction on tools and workflows.

Neither owns the number by default. If you need someone who does, that is a fractional AI CMO. The longer comparison: AI CMO vs AI marketing agency.

How I approach it

Diagnose first. Rank the constraints. Then decide where AI helps, lever by lever.

Often the first win is not a new tool at all. It is pointing existing effort at retention or creative throughput instead of more spend.

The proof I trust is commercial. As founding Head of Brand at Foodello, I helped scale it from €1M to €15M ARR. Brand, systems and discipline as one layer. AI makes that layer faster to build.

Questions founders ask

What does an AI growth consultant do?

Helps a brand apply AI to its growth levers, such as creative, retention, conversion and reporting, and decides which to prioritise. The useful ones start from constraints, not from tools.

Where does AI help ecommerce growth most?

Usually in creative research and drafting, retention flows, review mining for product page copy, and weekly reporting. It helps least where the problem is the offer or the margin.

Should I hire an AI growth agency?

If you know which lever to pull and need execution capacity, yes. If you do not know what is holding growth back, diagnose first.
